“Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.” Acts. 8:17

Confirmation is the anointing with sacred chrism by the bishop or priest, which signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament gives us special divine strength to share and “defend our faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ” and never to be ashamed of his Cross. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1285)

Teen Confirmation

Confirmation, along with Baptism and Communion, is part of what is called the Sacraments of Initiation into our Catholic Church. Through this sacrament, we are equipped and strengthened by the Holy Spirit to face all the challenges and struggles of life with His grace.

The Confirmation program at St. James Cathedral is typically completed during the candidate’s 7th grade year. All student are strongly encouraged to participate in Youth Ministry (EDGE/Life Teen) during their preparation years and to continue their formation after their Confirmation.

Before registering your teen for Confirmation, please contact the parish office to see what steps need to be taken before receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

If your teen is attending a Catholic school, there are a couple adjustments to the requirements that are stated on the Confirmation Program page.
