Children’s and Jubilate Youth Choir
The singing of the Church comes ultimately out of love. — Pope Benedict XVI
St. James Cathedral is now accepting registrations for boys and girls entering grades 1 – 3 for the Children’s Choir, and those entering grades 4 and up for Jubilate Youth Choir.
The Choirs sing approximately once a month, leading the singing of mass at our Cathedral. In addition to preparing the monthly mass music at their weekly rehearsals, the Children and Youth Choirs use the curriculum of the world-renowned Royal School of Church Music, whose purpose is to foster good choral and individual singing. The students have the option to earn achievement medals as they follow RSCM’s Curriculum. For each level of accomplishment, the students receive and wear a medal with a distinctive color ribbon for each level as follows: Level 1-Light Blue, 2- Dark Blue, 3-Red & 4-Yellow.
St. James Cathedral is also a member of the American Federation of Pueri Cantores, which is a Catholic organization that promotes good choral singing among children & youth with National & International Choral Festivals and Workshops led by renowned choral clinicians. A highlight for our students two years ago was traveling to Rome, Italy for participation in the 40th International Congress of Pueri Cantores. The students have also participated in Regional festivals held here in Orlando and enjoyed the expertise of various nationally known clinicians. Each festival participation enhances their musical experience and helps them develop into fine young music ministers who serve the Church in a unique way!
