“Money has to serve, not to rule!”  ~ Pope Francis

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Pope Francis continues to capture the world’s attention as he goes about his ministry with humility, courage, and the down-to-earth approachability of a country pastor.

Our theme for this year’s Stewardship of Treasure renewal is, “Money has to serve, not to rule!”  Pope Francis spoke those words in his first major speech on the global financial system.

Our annual Stewardship of Treasure renewal calls each of us to reflect on the financial gifts God has given to us.  In the midst of our busy and hectic lives, this renewal gives each of us the opportunity to stop and think about the gift of treasure we will return to the Lord. “How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me!”  (Psalm 116:12)

Pope Francis’ simple words help us to know that money must not rule us.  Money must serve.  Let us work together so that future generations of Catholics at St. James Cathedral may say of us, “What good stewards they were!  They faced economic uncertainty.  And yet they kept investing themselves in the life of the Church.”

Please bring your completed Stewardship of Treasure intention card to Mass on November 9 & 10, or return it in the envelope provided.

God Bless,
Fr. John McCormick
Rector
