On Saturday March 9 through Sunday March 10 the youth fellowship from St. James Cathedral and Holy Family Catholic Church had a unique opportunity. They choose to participate in a food fast in solidarity with those who walk hungry every day. This fast was focused on social justice, fair trade, and the dignity of each and every person.
You don’t have to be seated to praise God as our youth discovered that morning!
The masks that the group made represent the face of the homeless as imagined by our youth. Through discussion and prayer they came to realize that the faces we see in the homeless are truly the faces of Christ himself.
We welcomed as guests several men who are refugees from the Sudan. Through the help of Catholic Charities these men are in the process of integrating with our culture and becoming citizens of the US. They shared their experiences of surviving several days without food and their harrowing escape from the Sudan. They were very excited to participate with our youth in common games and prayer.
